Get to know more about the FT UMJ Robotics Community

The Robotics Community is a forum for students at the Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (UMJ) , especially the Faculty of Engineering , to develop their abilities in the field of automation technology research.

The very rapid progress of the industrial world, which is marked by the use of technology and automation, has become one of the driving forces for the establishment of the Robotics Community. With this community, students have a place and facilities to develop themselves so that they have more abilities and are ready to face the challenges of industrial development.

Students who are members of the Robotics Community carry out several activities, including training and participation in competitions organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, Technology and Higher Education, namely the Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI).

The Robotics Community training program includes basic training on electronics, mechanics and informatics. These three fields are knowledge that is applied in making robots and automation systems. Members of the Robotics Community also regularly take part in KRI every year as part of an annual project .

Students who are interested in joining the Robotics Community must first have work, which will then go through an assessment process. After that, the student is given a membership identification number.

So the work of prospective new members must go through a team discussion process that assesses the urgency of the work being created, planning, researching, designing, making a prototype, then testing. The testing phase was carried out to determine the electrical and mechanical functions. If it has been tested and functions well, the robot can be presented in front of supervisors consisting of lecturers and alumni of the Robotics Community.

Currently the Robotics Community consists of 20 students. Community members have the opportunity to take part in the Indonesian Robot Contest, where every year the Robot Community never fails to send students and their robot works to this competition.

One of the achievements of the Robotics Community members is that they have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Indonesian Football Robot Contest. At that time, members of the Robotics Community displayed the work of a robot with wheels that could play football.

Apart from football robots, members of this community have made various other types of robots, ranging from drone robots, sumo robots, to fire extinguisher robots.

Apart from gaining very useful knowledge from three fields, namely mechanics, informatics, for example coding and programming languages, and electronics, members of the Robotics Community also get contacts and a portfolio of their work. Through the Robotics Community, students are expected to have competence in the field of automation technology.
